This was a question put to me last week and it wasn’t in terms of what year did it first come on the scene but if we converted it into human equivalence where do I think it is at?
Let me know how you would answer that question based on your usage?
I hadn’t really thought about it before but my instinct was to say a Year 7 student, so 11 or 12.
Why?
It feels to me like it’s been through the hand holding stage. It’s been through the putting it’s hand up in class and repeating the same answer as the last child because they weren’t really listening.
It’s had lots of playground bumps. Bruises have come and gone, some scars still remain.
It feels like it’s now started 'big' school. It’s been given it’s first mobile phone, so it can walk to school on it’s own. It has new freedoms and is building lots of new connections.
BUT…… it hasn’t hit puberty yet. We have the teenage stage to go through. We have the university years and gap year, where it really finds itself in the world and works out what it wants to do as a grown up.
How long in actual years it will take to get to the metaphorical 21 years old is anyones guess but I suspect we’re looking at it being condensed into the next 3-5 years.
So where does it sit for you? Are you still putting it in nappies or has it reached adulthood in your eyes? Interested to know your thoughts!
